Need Help Deciding What To Do

I just finished my Junior year and have been planning on applying this upcoming cycle, but I'm starting to have doubts and might consider taking a gap year.

My stats:

Microbiology/Cell Sciences Major

3.42c/3.4s (upward trend- bad freshman year grades due to illness)
---This is my biggest concern

Taking Mcat in 2 weeks- based off my AAMC FLs I estimate an MCAT score around 511 (+/- 2)

50 hours clinical volunteering between trauma nursing center and surgical center

15 hours volunteering...

First time asking for help. Put off applying a few years to get experience and an improved MCAT score. 27 y/o, non-trad by now, started healthcare related activities senior year but have not taken classes since graduation in 2013. Information taken from stickied WAMC thread below.

I have been looking at the MSAR and picking schools based on median and percentile ranges. I don't know if I'm aiming too high given my first expired score, and have no real reference point for what my target vs...

ECs: worked a lot, significant leadership, hospital volunteering, shadowing, tutoring, coaching, other non-clinical volunteering, NO RESEARCH
Went to a UC, CA resident

I am worried that my school list is too top heavy, given my lack of research. I would love some suggestions on some mid-tiers. I'm looking to apply to 20 schools. Thank you all so much. Your input is extremely appreciated.

-Took a gap year, full time CNA (Long-term care for profoundly disabled children)
-The 4.0 is from a small/unimpressive state school
-509 MCAT is skewed (127 Chem/Phys, 126 Bio, 126 CARS, 130 Psych)
-B.A. in Bio and B.S in Psych
-Minored in Chem and Neuroscience
-2 summers of Chem research with one publication (Learned research is not for me!!)
-Excessive sorority leadership
-Lots of community service (Not in the health field though)

I've been a frequent visitor here at SDN and have read over many inspiring as well as downright negative responses to threads where the individual has a criminal history. So I am curious to see what the community would think my chances are of getting into medical school. Even more so, what are my chances of getting into a hospital for rotations and then residency?

My background is a troubled family with mother taking siblings away, father turning to alcohol, and me trying to figure this all...

Background info
MI resident, white male, B.S. in Biology from state school, re-applicant from 2017 cycle, applied to 12 schools and currently on two waitlists (1 MD and 1 DO)

GPA

Long time lurker but never actually made an account until now. I know my GPA is OK and my MCAT score is pretty good but I cant determine how my ECs are. I've seen folks with similar stats to mine be recommended to apply to a HUGE range of schools based I'm assuming on their ECs so was hoping for some guidance.

Hey there

So I just finished out my freshman year with the following grades:

Semester 1 = 3 A's, 1 B, 1 C

Semester 2 = 5 A's, 1 B

Total = cGPA is 3.6

I'm scared that I will not be able to maintain good grades as I advance to the upper level courses (especially since I'm taking Ochem next semester).

Any advice? Any reassurance at all would be helpful.

I just finished my junior year, and I had a pretty rough semester this time around. While I got A's and A-'s in all of my other classes, ended up with a C+ in biochemistry. I feel like my application was already kind of on the fence, but am now very worried. I want to go to LSUNO, and plan on applying early action. My application so far:

cGPA: 3.62
sGPA: 3.47
Taking MCAT in January (planning on taking a gap year after graduation)
Double major in neuroscience/history
Next year I'll be taking...

Hello SDNers,

I have been doing some personal research on schools to apply to and I've come up with 30 that I am interested in. Unfortunately, I know that I'll have trouble completing that many secondary applications because I work full-time.... and also money is a bit tight. I'm hoping to cut my list down to around 20 schools. I was looking for some suggestions on which ones might be worth getting rid of and if there are any good programs I am missing (trying to keep my applications east...

So for the past two years I have battled a very aggressive cancer while in college. I know I should have withdrawn to save my GPA, but honestly, school was the only thing keeping me sane through surgery and chemo.
